Wind Blows up Scores in England...

The wind in Blackpool was up and so were the scores on day 1 of the Lytham Trophy. Woodhall Spa’s Nathan Kimsey shot the low round with a two under par 68. One shot back is Southport & Ainsdale’s Paul Howard at 69. The Lytham Trophy is famous for destroying a player’s stroke average, but having played and caddied there at the British Amateur and caddied during Lytham Trophy, I can say it is a price well paid. This is a genius piece of turf that requires every bit of imagination, some serious ball striking skill and the patience of Job! The winner of this event will not be a fluke!!!

At the Fairhaven Trophy just down the road, Rosemount Blairgowrie’s Bradley Neil looks to be the class of the field as his 69, three under par, has him three shots ahead of Tantallon’s Calum Hill and Worthing’s Marco Penge at even par 72. With the wind blowing out of the south, the finish at Fairhaven will be a test for all the players. The Fairhaven Trophy has become a U18 Fixture in Europe. Manager Bob Thompson is one of golf’s top managers and the success of this event speaks to the quality of the club and his staff!
