Harry Diamond Wins the West of Ireland

Harry Diamond too sharp for the field at the West of Ireland…

Belvior Park’s Harry Diamond beat Stephen Haley of Claremorris 1 up in the final of the West of Ireland Amateur Open held at at County Sligo’s Rosses Point. Diamond battled 3 of his best mates, Paul O’kane, Alan Dunbar and Simon Ward to the 18th green in what he described as “mentally draining weather.” Diamond is off to play at Royal Lytham in two weeks. “I have not played there before and I am sure it will be in great shape with the Open being held there this year.” For his victory, Diamond received the top prize of 6024.60 points and his share of the 6th place qualifying points.

In the Stroke Play Qualifier, Lucan’s Richard O’Donovan played some spectacular golf on his way to shooting 71 and 67 and edged out Forrest Little’s Eoin Arthurs who shot 72 and 67.

Ireland is home to some of the world’s top golf courses and the Golfing Union of Ireland and it’s four counties, Connact, Leinster, Munster and Ulster host a variety of great tournaments open to international players of all of all ages. Look for many of these events on the EGR schedule.
